NY VTL 1180(e): failure to reduce speed for special hazards

There are a lot of ways to cited for speeding in New York. Some of them are very specific, and others are a bit vague. Section 1180(e) of the vehicle and traffic law is a catch-all that covers “special hazards,” including curves, hills, narrow and winding roads, railroad crossings, and pretty much any circumstances that suggest a driver should be especially cautious.

In other words, it’s deliberately broad to allow for a lot of discretion by police officers. If a driver pleads guilty, the penalty includes three points on the license. However, three speeding tickets inside of 18 months will get your license revoked automatically.

Whenever you get any kind of speeding ticket, your first step should be to call Selby Legal for a free consultation, or just upload your traffic ticket to get a call back with professional legal advice.
